How To Get Help When Your Struggling With Schoolwork

June 1, 2011

Schoolwork, no matter at what level of education can be incredibly overwhelming. Long nights of studying and trying to figure out math or science problems lead to sleeplessness and fatigue. This, of course, translates into attention deficits in class and during tests causing low school performance. The cycle that is started by overwhelming schoolwork has two major causes.

Firstly the schoolwork itself might be too large of a load. High school kids, on average, have six to seven classes a day with work assigned from each class almost every day. This on top of projects, tests, college applications and extra curricular activities can become an overload. College kids face a similar issue with even larger work loads and even greater number of responsibilities.

Secondly, even if the school work load is not too heavy, its content may be too difficult to comprehend. In other words, two hours of homework may turn into five if it takes the student half an hour to solve each problem.

However, for anyone who is overworked from school assignments, there is a solution. Help is always around the corner. For many high school kids, parents can offer to pay a tutor (usually a college level student) who will help ether ease the work load by helping the child fraction out the work in an effective manner, or by helping solve problems ore efficiently. Tutors also help high school kids study for tests and gain a better understanding of the subject matter. Many kids learn better when they are taught material one on one. This means less stress and better grades. If you live in Washington DC and are having a hard time in calculus, just Google search ‘Washington D.C. calculus tutoring‘.

For college kids, there are usually many on campus help resources that will aid the student in cutting down on the school work load or help get a better grasp of the material covered in class. Each department usually has one or two such sources where older students and faculty members are available throughout the day to help solve problems, correct papers, and give one on one help with anything having to do with certain classes.

For college students another great way to get help school work is visiting the professor’s office hours. Especially in smaller universities and colleges, professors all have assigned office hours or make appointments with students. During the office hours, the professor will answer the student’s questions, go over difficult concepts and give the student a better understanding of what is required to get a good grade. Many times students also benefit from office hours by going over problems they got wrong on the test and getting advice on how to better handle the overwhelming school work load.
